One of the most interesting things about cosmetic plastic surgery is that you never really perform the same procedure twice. Necessary medical procedures always have a single objective goal that is the same no matter who the patient is. However, the ideal outcome of a cosmetic procedure, like breast augmentation, will usually change from person to person, depending on their specific body type and on what a “perfect” breast looks like in their mind. Still, in the more than twenty years that I have been a board certified plastic surgeon, I have noticed that most breast enhancement patients, particularly those women who have had children, almost always use the term “natural” to describe how they want to look. Although the exact definition of “natural” can vary from case to case, I have found that I can consistently achieve extremely natural looking breast augmentation results by using an approach called “composite breast augmentation.” Listen as I explain the details in this video that I filmed for the Plastic Surgery Channel.
As I explain in the video, I have found that most women want to leave some doubt in the mind of the observer as to whether or not they have undergone breast augmentation surgery, particularly if that observer is another woman. Composite breast augmentation accomplishes this by incorporating three distinct plastic surgery techniques. First, a breast implant is used to add core volume to the breast, just as it would be in a traditional breast augmentation procedure. Then, liposuction is used to remove excess fat from areas where it is undesirable, like the abdomen or thighs. This has the secondary benefit of helping the patient achieve a sleeker and more toned physique. Finally, the fat that has been removed is then purified and re-injected into the breasts, using a procedure called fat transfer. The natural fat obscures the sharper edges of the implants while still conforming to the natural shape of the body, making it very difficult to tell whether the woman has had an augmentation. The final results are soft and subtle so that they attract attention while still looking extremely natural.
There are as many different approaches to breast augmentation as there are women in the world, so if you would like to learn more about your options, please contact me, Dr. James Namnoum, to schedule a full breast augmentation consultation today. During that consultation we can experiment with different implant sizes and types using the Vectra® M3 imaging system and find out the exact look that will be perfect for you.
