Restoring Your Pre-Pregnancy Body with a Mommy Makeover

One of the most satisfying things about being a board-certified plastic surgeon is having the opportunity to help someone recapture the happiness, optimism, and self-confidence that they may have felt at an earlier point in their lives.  While many cosmetic plastic surgery procedures can effectively “turn back the clock” of aging, I have found that few are consistently able to achieve the dramatic and life-changing results of a mommy makeover.  After a woman has gone through pregnancy, childbirth, and breast feeding, she will often find that the process has changed her body.  In some cases, those changes are relatively minor and temporary, but in others they can be much more noticeable and long-lasting.  While the effects can vary, but they typically include some or all of the following: sagging of the breasts and nipples, fatty accumulation in the thighs, abdomen, hips, arms, neck, and brassiere area, a relaxation of the muscles in the abdominal wall, and loss of shape and projection in the buttocks.  Fortunately, for many women who are not yet ready to accept these changes to their bodies, a mommy makeover can help restore her to her pre-pregnancy appearance.  You can hear me explain more about mommy makeovers in this video interview I filmed for the Plastic Surgery Channel.

The mommy makeover is such an effective and versatile approach because it is more than just a single plastic surgery procedure.  Instead, it is actually a combination of procedures, carefully customized to address the individual needs of the patient, that work together to help a woman regain the body she once had.  Every patient has different wants and needs, so the specific procedures involved can vary, but a mommy makeover will usually include a tummy tuck (to tone the abdominal area), some form of breast enhancement (like a breast lift, augmentation, or reduction to restore lift and projection to the breasts), and liposuction to eliminate stubborn fat deposits.  Many women also choose to undergo other targeted body contouring procedures, like spider vein treatment, arm lifts, or thigh lifts, depending on their individual needs. Because these procedures are performed during a single surgical session, patients generally experience shorter recovery times than if they had undergone them in succession and can start enjoying their mommy makeover results more quickly.

As with any form of plastic surgery, the key to a successful mommy makeover is communication.  As I explain in the video, I spend a great deal of time with a patient during her plastic surgery consultation, going over detailed images of her entire body so that I can understand how she really sees herself, her aesthetic goals, and how best to address her personal areas of concern.  To learn more about mommy makeovers, or about any of the plastic surgery procedures that I perform, please connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Google+ for all the latest plastic surgery news and updates.  If you are interested in discussing what plastic surgery procedures might be able to specifically do for you, please contact me, Dr. James Namnoum, to schedule a plastic surgery consultation today.
