Belt Lipectomy

A belt lipectomy is utilized in patients who have experienced massive weight loss either through diet and exercise or following bariatric surgery. In these patients, a tremendous amount of excess skin and fat may be present over the lower abdomen and flanks. A belt lipectomy removes the unwanted tissues creating a tapered waistline in front and back. The procedure combines an abdominoplasty with buttock lift by making use of an incision that tracks completely around the torso. The scar is placed in the same place where a thong panty would drape in a woman. The scar is placed higher in a man but below the swim trunk or boxer short line.

A belt lipectomy can dramatically alter the appearance of the torso. In some patients, tightening the abdominal wall along with fat grafting of the buttocks may be added to the treatment plan.

For patients who have lost lesser amounts of weight but desire a specifically refined torso, a belt lipectomy may be appropriate especially when combined with liposuction and fat grafting of the buttocks. This is a very powerful tool to dramatically reshape the contour of the abdomen, flanks and buttocks. It may be coupled with a variety of breast enhancement procedures.
