Thigh Lift
Overtime, skin can start to lose its firm, tight appearance which creates excess, sagging skin in various areas of the body, including the outer extremities. If you’re experiencing unwanted extra skin in your inner and outer thighs, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. James Namnoum offers Thigh Lift surgery, a body contouring surgical option. This procedure may be appealing for both men and women that have experienced significant weight loss, those who have discomfort due to excess skin caused by normal signs of aging or those that simply have a desire for firmer, tighter thighs. This skin-tightening option may also be performed in conjunction with Liposuction, to remove unwanted fat.
What Is a Thigh Lift?
A thigh lift, often termed “thighplasty,” is a cosmetic surgical procedure designed to enhance the contours and appearance of the thighs by removing excess skin and, in some cases, fat. The procedure is sought after by individuals who have experienced significant weight loss, aging, or those with a genetic predisposition to loose skin on the thighs. The goal of a thigh lift is to create smoother, firmer, and more proportionate thigh contours, rejuvenating the overall look of the legs.

Preparing For Thigh Lift Surgery
Preparing for a thigh lift surgery is an essential step in ensuring a smooth procedure and optimal recovery. First and foremost, if you are a smoker, it’s crucial to stop smoking at least six weeks before the surgery. Smoking can severely compromise blood flow, hindering wound healing and increasing the risk of complications. Dr. Namnoum also recommends patients maintain a balanced diet and stay hydrated in the weeks leading up to the procedure. Avoid taking any medications or supplements that can thin the blood, such as aspirin or ibuprofen, unless directed otherwise. Furthermore, it’s essential to arrange for someone to drive you home post-surgery and, if possible, have someone stay with you for the initial 24-48 hours post-operatively. This ensures your safety and provides assistance during the initial recovery phase. Remember, thorough preparation not only helps in achieving the best results but also in minimizing potential risks and complications.
How Is Thigh Lift Surgery Performed?
After patients are comfortably asleep under either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, Dr. Namnoum will begin the thigh lift surgery by creating an incision in the thigh that is placed within natural creases in the groin, perineum, and rear buttocks to avoid noticeable scarring.2 He will then begin removing excess skin and fat from the areas discussed during your pre-operative appointment. Depending on the surgical approach discussed, he may utilize liposuction to assist with removal of fat. In some instances, commonly those in which there is a significant amount of excess skin, a two-vector approach may be used. This approach removes skin and fat vertically from the inside portion of the upper leg, in combination with the previously described incision placement. Once the newly shaped thighs are absent of excess skin and fat, he will close the incisions, revealing almost immediately noticeable results.
Dr. Namnoum is highly-skilled in body contouring procedures, including thigh lift surgery. By removing loose extra skin from the thighs, he can create smooth, firm and more youthful-looking results.

FAQs About Thigh Lift Surgery
Who is a good candidate for a thigh lift?
Ideal candidates for a thigh lift are individuals with sagging or loose skin on the thighs due to factors such as aging, substantial weight loss, or genetic predispositions. It’s crucial for candidates to maintain a stable weight and demonstrate a commitment to leading a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, non-smokers are preferred for this procedure because smoking can significantly hinder the healing process post-surgery.
Are there different types of thigh lifts?
Yes, the common types include inner (medial) thigh lift, outer (lateral) thigh lift, and vertical thigh lift, each targeting different areas.
How long is the thigh lift recovery period?
Patients typically return to light activities in about 1-2 weeks. Full recovery, especially for more strenuous activities, may take several weeks.
Will I have scars after thigh lift surgery?
Scarring is inevitable, but the appearance of scars can be minimized with proper wound care. Dr. Namnoum also strategically places incisions to be as discreet as possible.
How long will the results last?
Results are long-lasting, especially if you maintain a stable weight and engage in regular exercise. However, gravity and aging can still affect the appearance of your thighs over time.
Will a thigh lift get rid of cellulite?
A thigh lift primarily addresses loose skin and excess fat. While it can improve the appearance of cellulite to some extent, it’s not a direct treatment for cellulite.
Can a thigh lift be combined with other procedures?
Yes, many patients combine a thigh lift with other post weight loss surgeries or body contouring procedures, like abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or liposuction, depending on their desired results.
What is the cost of a thigh lift?
The cost of thigh lift surgery varies based on the specifics of the procedure. The best way to get an accurate estimate for your cosmetic goals is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Namnoum.
